HEY NEW YORKERS, TELL US YOUR OPINIONS ON THE BOTTLE BILL!

The New York bottle bill has not been updated since 2009. Many believe it is time to update it to keep up with changing times and expenses. Please take the poll below ONLY if you reside in New York State.

    HANDLING FEE

Redemption centers and stores are currently being paid 3.5¢ per container. That amount hasn't changed since 2009. Their fee is not paid by the consumer or taxpayer funded, but through beverage distributors via the unredeemed fund. Redemption centers cannot raise prices like stores and are closing due to increased expenses with stagnant pay.

    CONTAINER EXPANSION

The current bottle bill does not include juice, tea, lemonade, cider, sports drinks, wine, liquor or single serve cocktail containers. Many of these containers are ending up as litter or in our landfills because there is no incentive to recycle them.

    DEPOSIT

The bottle deposit in New York has been 5¢ since 1983. Many believe a nickel doesn't hold the same purchasing power as it did then and that the deposit should be increased to keep up with economic times and to encourage more recycling.
