Due to a stagnant handling fee, redemption centers have been closing at a rapid rate. New York lost over 150 redemption centers in the last 2 years. This is causing loss of small businesses, significant job loss and overwhelming New York landfills.

States like Maine, Connecticut, Iowa and California updated their bottle bills in 2023. Other states are introducing legislation to add a bottle bill to their states that do not currently have one. New York is falling behind when it comes to the bottle redemption system.
